A wise man and an eager student

A wise man and an eager student were having an existential chat...and the conversation turned to business: -

Wise man:

"What's one of the most important skills in business and in life to learn?"

Eager student:

"Errrmmm...communication?"

Wise man:

"Right...and what sort of role in society would you say teaches you this skill the fastest?"

Eager student:

"Ermm...maybe sales?"

Wise man:

"Right...and within that role what do you think you need to do to improve?"

"Speak to people?"

"Any particular type of person?"

"New people?"

"Right...and how best to do that?"

"By calling them?"

"Right!"

"So why do most salespeople not do that anymore oh wise one?"

"That...my friend...is the question..."
