Re-introduction Post

Hi, I'm Scott -

Two sides to my business:

1. Sales-Squared - Corporate Sales Training.

2. Method Sales - Sales Training for Founders.

I've been a sales trainer for 5.5 years - started my own business during Covid.

Cut the umbilical cord, kissed good-bye to my last paycheck in 2020.

Wondered how the hell I was gonna pay my bills more times than I care to remember.

VAT headaches

Corporation tax

Unpaid invoices

The thing no-one tells you before you start a business is the sheer number of hats you have to wear...

- Sales

- Marketing

- Branding

- Client delivery

- Customer success

- Account management

- Operations

- Finance

- Social media

- Strategy

- Planning

No-one can prepare to for that.

By far the steepest learning curve you'll find.

But if you perserver, you'll come out the other end a different person.

I've learnt more about sales & business over the past five years than I did across the previous 15.

When I started I thought I knew everything about sales...I didn't. No-one does. Anyone claiming to has simply stopped learning.

I had a lot to learn.

My first corporate sales training gig was scary as fck.

Felt like I got lucky in winning the business. Right place. Right time.

Couldn't sleep the night before.

Thought I'd be shit.

Imposter syndrome took over.

The day of the training I turn up.

15 salespeople in the company boardroom (& the MD).

Nervous as hell.

My own sales training business. All on me. Everything on the line.

If I'm crap I'll be eaten for breakfast.

I had prepared a slide deck - I whizzed through that in 45 mins.

So just another 6.5 hours to go!

Talk about thinking on your feet.

At that moment, I opened the floor up.

Started asking questions.

Finding out where the team genuinely struggled the most & why.

How did they currently handle it?

Why that response? What about this? Ever tried X or Y?

Playing out sales scenarios the team faced every single day.

Role playing with me as the prospect.

And then with me as the seller.

We covered cold calls, objections, sales meetings, tone, delivery, how to ask questions...etc.

The remaining 6.5 hours absolutely flew by.

The room was alive with energy, ideas, lightbulb moments & a shifting of beliefs.

That day turned into one of the best experiences of my life...and I couldn't wait for the next one.

Everybody shook my hand at the end - the team were genuinely taken aback by how much we'd unpacked. Practical stuff they could apply right away.

That's how sales training should be - I learnt this by accident.

Not a boring slide deck with a trainer talking at the room for hours, all theory. No-one learns that way.

You learn by doing.

- Learn a new skill.

- Practice.

- Play it out.

- Experiment.

And you'll shift behaviours, beliefs, and habits.

What's been your biggest learning experience?
