Warm calls?

I made a cold call...

A guy picked up and said..

"I'm sorry - I only take 'warm' calls - if only you'd sent me an email or LinkedIn message first. I would've welcomed you with open arms."

"So if I hang up, email you & then call back, you'll speak to me?" 

"Exactly - and I can't wait to get that email. There's nothing quite like an unsolicited email hitting your inbox."

"But what if it goes into spam or you don't see it?" 

"That's irrelevant - so long as you send something."

"Great - speak to you in 5 once you're fully warmed up!"

"Can't wait!"

....said no prospect ever.

There's no such thing as a 'warm' call.

It's a myth pushed by those lacking sales skills or who suffer from a fear of the phone.
