Checking in?

"I'm just following up..."

"I'm just checking in..."

"I just wanted to bump this to the top of your inbox..." (this one really annoys people)

📩

We all have these emails in our inboxes.

And they all have one thing in common...

They bring zero value & are almost always self-serving in nature.

So what's the answer?

Here are some ideas: -

- Maximising initial outreach by refining the first email & following up with a phone call (or better still ~ vice versa)

- Being specific by tuning into someone's actual frustrations (not assumed)

- Providing something of value (law of reciprocity)

- By deleting any jargon & making it relatable / emotional

- Keeping it short and deleting the use of 'I' 'My' 'We' (all about you)

And by making sure there is a concrete reason for reaching out, and not the lazy approach of...

"Interested in how to 3x your ROI? Book a time below..."

Because claims like this irritate prospects.

How does a salesperson know they could 3x anything?

They don't know their prospect's business.

Claims like this massively discredit them.

Along with the assumptive calendar invite...

They reflect badly on salespeople as professionals and are usually indicative of a cut & paste job to their ICP.

Salespeople need to be far more strategic by making every single part of their cold outreach count.

Because throwing 'proverbial' at the wall to see what sticks is not a strategy.

But it is unfortunately the most common approach out there.

What would you add?
