Her parents treated her like a princess
She wanted for nothing
She was the apple of their eye
After university she didn't really know what to do
So, she 'fell into sales'
Firstly, she was tasked with making 100 cold calls a day
She hated it
She had to call senior level directors
They spoke to her badly
Treated her like crap
She couldn't deal with it
"Who the hell did they think they were talking to?"
"How could they be so horrible!"
She'd never been spoken to so badly or treated that way before
Her whole sense of identity was brought into question
She didn't know who she was anymore
She had a complete crisis of confidence
Her self-esteem was shot to pieces

So, she came home after her first week in a terrible state and cried herself to sleep.
And then she quit
Her father asked her why...
"Sales is just not for me Dad. I tried it - but I really didn't like it. I think I'll get a job in PR. That's more me."
"OK sweetheart - whatever makes you happy." he replied.
All he wanted was the best for her.
A lot of people can't handle sales because it turns their sense of identity & belief system on its head.
But those who stay the course and hone their craft?
They...
* develop new muscle
* become resilient
* learn about themselves
* learn about people
* go through what is often painful change
* grow both personally & professionally
* take responsibility
* multiply their emotional intelligence
* learn invaluable interpersonal skills
* become infinitely better equipped to deal with all life throws at them
The world may seem cruel, harsh or unfair, but it's usually as a result of not embracing change & stepping out of your comfort zone to adapt.
The world is actually indifferent.
The only thing you can change is yourself.
