How to gain control of any conversation

A client recently asked me how he could gain more control of conversations with his clients which is something he has been really struggling with.



My simple answer - ask great questions.


The person asking the questions is the one directing the conversation.


I found early on in my sales career that this was often the best way to pass through gatekeepers. If you are too slow then questions will be fired at you, putting you instantly on the back foot.


Whether it is with prospective clients, gatekeepers or anyone else, get in there quickly and watch what happens.


Pertinent questions are a great way of being assertive and demonstrates you are a professional person who doesn't like to waste time.


Have a list of pre-prepared questions which are thought-provoking, intelligent, and relevant.
