While IQ is fixed in most people...
EQ is not.
With the right approach, you can increase it significantly.
I often get push-back on this when training groups of salespeople, but when they realise it's possible it usually sparks a bit of a lightbulb moment.
Emotional intelligence is critical if you want to become a better salesperson. Many would argue it's more important than IQ.
It means increasing your:
- Self-awareness
- Situational awareness (reading the room & individual's responses)
- Emotional management (responding instead of reacting)
- Assertiveness
- Communication skills (adjusting in the moment)
- Empathy & rapport (ensuring people feel understood)
- Control & balance
Not only for sales, but these are interpersonal & communication skills enhancing every aspect of your life.
It has the potential to boost career success, entrepreneurial & leadership skills, health, relationships, fulfilment, purpose.
To do so requires deliberate training, dropping your ego, great coaching, accurate feedback, introspection, a willingness to change, and a growth mindset.
It's the reason I cover it in detail throughout my sales training programs.
