Never try to blag or impress

I used to try and impress prospects with my knowledge or insight.

Particularly if they were knowledgeable...I'd find myself trying to prove my worth.

I'd compete with them, but almost always come out second best.

Years later I realise this is a manifestation of insecurity.

A losing battle.

If you're being completely honest, is this something you find yourself doing?

What I would say is - never try to compete with people who are most likely experts in their field.

You'll quickly become unstuck.

Your prospects are highly intelligent people.

They'll soon suss you out.

What you are actually doing is putting yourself in a subservient position...by 'pandering' to your prospect.

...attempting to impress through feigning expertise.

Blagging is for amateurs.

A much better approach is:

- listen carefully

- learn from your prospects

- ask further questions to demonstrate genuine interest

- admit when you don't know something

This approach comes from a position of strength and confidence.

You'll come across as far more authentic and honest.

So stop trying to impress.

Take full advantage & learn from these industry experts...and before you know it you'll become one yourself.

"The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing." -Socrates

Give it a whirl.
