I got off the phone with a pushy salesperson the other day and it got me thinking - what's the difference between assertiveness & simply being pushy?
Pushiness is an unpleasant character trait and it pisses people off. It consists of trying to lead someone without first building rapport. It's actually quite rude.
Assertiveness is a forthright behavioural trait exhibited by a confident leader, someone who commands respect. It is built on a foundation of rapport and is courteous.
Pushiness is a negative way to communicate and will not serve you.
Assertiveness on the other hand is a positive characteristic which will stand you in good stead.
I know which one I'd rather be on the end of.
