The Wrong Mindset

"A Sales Director didn't respond to my email.
He won't take my calls.
He won't come back to my video message.
Where does this guy get off!
Does he not realise he should always respond, otherwise how can he possibly expect his own team to hit quota?"
Is this satire?
Irony?
An inside joke?
No.
This is a genuine point of view.
Prospects owe you nothing.
Anyone in sales who expects the red carpet treatment just because they're approaching another sales professional is naive beyond belief.
"They lead a sales team so they should have the courtesy to respond to every single cold outreach. Otherwise they don't practice what they preach."
This is a ludicrous point of view.
They preach how their sellers should sell.
Not how their buyers should buy.
No one has control over that.
It's with the God's.
As soon as you make your cold approach to anyone they become your potential buyer.
So forget their role as Sales Director.
And if they don't respond?
So what.
Not everyone does.
They aren't obliged to.
Not everyone wants or needs what you have.
People have jobs to do.
Their own targets to hit.
They're as busy as you and don't have 118 hours in a day.
And there's another X million people out there...
So move on.
And maybe look in the mirror.
That could be the problem staring right back at you.
Perhaps your email is garbage, your video nonsense and your message uninspired.
Stop blaming prospects for your results.
And take responsibility.
Whilst it's impossible to be a bad prospect.
...It's very possible to be a terrible salesperson.
