Things I would do as a new salesperson starting out in 2024...

1. Phone first.
Every single time. You learn faster & build your communication & EQ skills at light speed, compared with hiding behind email or some irritating sequence.
2. Ask better questions.
Clear your mind from any assumptions, biases or your own agenda. Be that 5 year old kid again and become genuinely curious.
3. Understand the problems you solve.
Not just surface-level but in detail. And don't confuse problems with solutions. I often ask salespeople which problems they solve and they reply... 'we offer a streamlined CRM service'. This is not a problem...and is usually a result of product-heavy onboarding.
So ask yourself 'What headaches, frustrations or stresses do I help fix?'
4. Become very comfortable speaking with senior level decision-makers.
Do not just blindly agree.
Do not pretend to know more than you do.
Do not pander to their every whim.
Instead - have an opinion, be honest, and be assertive. You'll command a lot more respect.
5. Get comfortable around large sums of money.
If you work in sales you need to sort out any negative relationship you have with money. Otherwise you'll crumble at the first mention you're too expensive, you'll discount too much and too quickly & you'll become awkward when it comes to even mentioning the cost.
You have to have full belief that your service is worth every single penny.
What would you add?
