"THIS IS MY PERSONAL NUMBER!!

You call a prospect on their mobile & they tell you it's their personal number and not to contact them on it...

What do you say?

Here's one opinion -

"If your call disturbs someone or reaches them on their personal number you should apologise and end the call. This shows respect."

I disagree.

This is the mindset of people who regard sales as that 'dirty' part of business.

Cold calls will always, by definition, disturb someone.

That's the whole point of an unsolicited call.

For someone to 'expect' your cold call would be the definition of an oxymoron.

If someone doesn't wish to be called on a particular number, then all you have to do is end the call in a courteous manner.

Subservient salespeople apologise for doing their job.

Professional salespeople - who take pride in their role - do not.

No salesperson calls a number with the intention of upsetting someone or reaching them on a personal line.

The internet is a big place and numbers are scraped from the bottom of the web.

To apologise for calling an inappropriate number is to apologise for doing your job.

Prospecting & cold calling is tough enough without feeling guilty about carrying out the necessary actions.

And I would hazard a guess that the people advocating the apologetic approach have never made a cold call in their life.

Not many can.

So to those who do - I have nothing but absolute respect for you.

I know how tough it is.

So never ever apologize for doing your job.

You are the engine of your business and commerce in general.

And if sales don't come in - no-one gets paid.
