"Because I just love meeting new people."
It's surprising just how common this response is amongst aspiring salespeople.
If someone enters the sales profession with a need to be liked, they will be destined for a career filled with disappointment & mediocrity.
Why?
Because the desire to be liked or make friends drives needy behaviour, which turns people off.
Sales is about effective problem solving, improving business acumen & honing your communication skills...whilst at the same time managing your emotions.
There's a world of difference between needing to be liked & being liked by default of doing your job properly.
Credibility > Likeability
And if you achieve both, even better.
